- Prepare the Dough
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract.
- Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing just until combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the cookies tender. Fold in the chocolate chips and optional chopped nuts.
- Scoop and Bake
Using a medium cookie scoop or about 2 tablespoons of dough, place portions onto the prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden while the centers still appear slightly soft.
- Cool and Enjoy
Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes. Transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely, or enjoy them warm while the chocolate chips are still gooey.
